This is the time of year that we are planning new bakes inspired by the season. At the moment, the shop is on pause and we are only baking orders for Capuyo Cafe. Transitioning into year nine has been quite challenging. Suffice it to say that only our vegan empanadas will remain and the baked goodies will become discontinued later this season.
It is no longer feasible to remain open as we have been operating given the great loss we experienced last year. Though our faithful customers kept us going, it was not enough to sustain Good Mexican Girl.
I'm tapping in to the energy of the season and welcoming renewal of Good Mexican Girl. I want to offer more workshops, expand into live cooking demonstrations, and share more about this Good Mexican Girl's way of being in the world. You get some of this through my other brand Healing Queen. It is time to join them both.
In the meantime, you can order using our order form found at linktr.ee/goodmexicangirl
We hope to see you soon out at a pop-up later this summer with our vegan empanadas.
blessings, reina
]]>Hello everyone, on January 6 is the day of the Epiphany and a wonderful time to reflect on the gifts you can offer the world. I shared on Acceso Total on Telemundo a little bit about the history of the Rosca de Reyes. Seen here are is our gluten-free rosca alongside our vegan tamales, empanadas, and Mexican Wedding Cookies.
It was truly a joy to share this information on a national platform. I'll post the link here on the blog and our linktr.ee/goodmexicangirl page too.
Our Rosca de Reyes are sold out. At the moment, we are only available to offer weekly local delivery on our empanadas. Sweet treats will return at the end of the month in time to order for Valentine's Day.
Blessings, reina

]]>Now, I never expected year 8 to turn out how it did. I'll be honest, I was blind sighted like many of you. We tried to pivot by offering weekly contact less delivery of our vegan empanadas locally but it was not enough to keep us afloat. Nevertheless, the boost in sales from Day of the Dead Pan de Muerto helped. Now with the holidays, we are hoping to start year nine in a better place.
A few cool happenings with Good Mexican Girl in year 8 is that we got to do a live cooking demo with the La Plaza de la Cultura y Arte in Los Angeles sharing our soyrizo vegan empanada recipe. The museum has the video up on their youtube page. I would like to do more cooking demos in the coming year.
In the meantime, I'm enjoying more being in the kitchen and not feeling the pressure to bake for pop-up shops. My mom and I have been having fun cooking new recipes together. I have been asking her about cooking techniques too. With the pace of work I had last year, I did not have these deep conversations with my mom. I appreciate the time we have together.
I do miss interacting with everyone. I'm also now re-evaluating how to continue Good Mexican Girl. Year nine will not be like the others in that I'm solely relying on selling our vegan bakes and empanadas to the public. It's time to integrate more the wellness offerings I have and make Good Mexican Girl more of a lifestyle brand.
To make this a reality, I'll take a break from baking our desserts and only have the vegan empanadas available for weekly delivery locally in the Los Angeles area. We do offer free delivery with orders of $25 or more. See google doc form found on our linktr.ee/goodmexicangirl site to place your orders and see which zip codes qualify for free delivery and how much it costs to deliver to your home if your address does not qualify for free delivery. After Holiday orders are placed by Sunday, December 13, I will only have vegan empanadas available and not our desserts until mid-March. This also means not offering our annual Rosca de Reyes for your Día de Los Reyes family celebration.
This may be the last year of Good Mexican Girl in this iteration. Possibly, an outcome of the pandemic and that this was coming long before the it hit. I was pondering how to continue at the pace I was going with the weekly pop-up shops as my other business Healing Queen was taking off more. I do not think it was the challenge of having both rather to honestly assess where am I best of service. I know this is not the end of Good Mexican Girl as a brand. Keep an eye out of how we'll bloom in our ninth year.
I do appreciate your support and look forward shipping or delivering our goodies out to you.
Happy Holidays from the Good Mexican Girl team
]]>
I can't believe that Good Mexican Girl started only 8 years ago. In our previous post we shared that we expanded our products to include savory items like our Vegan Empanadas.
It's been such a joy to share this growth with my mom. She retired in March and has been enjoying sharing her love of cooking. Even dreaming that she bakes so many empanandas that employees start to eat them as they come out of the oven. I loved that she shared this with me.
We have a chance to join some big events in 2020. We'll keep you updated on our social media pages. In the meantime, you can always order the empanadas with at least 48hours notice. We'll have our first pop-up in 2020 at Plus Bus on January 2nd. Check out our instagram page for details.
In the meantime, don't forget to order to your Rosca de Reyes. Free Shipping Code: Rosca only good for one day, Friday, December 27. I'll be baking a limited amount of Roscas this season. Out of state orders will be shipped Tuesday, December 31 and Local orders will be shipped Thursday, January 2nd.
How are we blooming in the dark, you may ask? I'm creating some new offerings through our brands Good Mexican Girl and Healing Queen, including a subscription service.
In the meantime, enjoy the holidays as the light gets brighter and guides closer to our heart's joy.

We joined a farmer's market on Wednesdays at the California Market Center. For July and August we are taking a hiatus and will return in September with new bakes.
Because of joining the market, we added vegan empanadas to our repetoire. We have joined pop-ups at Church of Seitan and Capuyo Cafe. Now we'll have one on August 10 with our friends Craft Beer Cellar in Eagle Rock.
If you follow us on instagram you may have noticed that we are doing pop-ups at least once a week. With the break from the farmer's market, I didn't bake until last week for the Mar Vista Art Walk. Woah it was too hot to bake. We made our top sellers and will have more available at our upcoming events.
We are now in the midst of growing our bakery with wholesale orders. We are seeking to move to a commercial kitchen. It's been seven years in the making. Now that I'm not teaching and only living off my businesses it's been heaven.
I'm in the kitchen creating a few new vegan desserts and confections. I'll keep you posted. In the meantime, feel free to order from our site and get free shipping on your orders with code Lucky7.

]]>How are you all landing into 2019?
]]>I'm feeling all sparkles as my mind and body have landed in 2019. The December hustle and early year baking with the Rosca orders made the start of the year a bit of a blur.
How are you all landing into 2019?
I was inspired to start on some new vegan bakes this year. I tested out a recipe for a peanut butter cookie with soy and dairy free chocolate chips. Going to up the peanut butter factor. I also baked a sunflower seed cookie inspired by my beloved's mom's favorite cookie. I like the texture. I'm working on the crispiness of it.
We are hoping to join a few new marketplaces this year that include Smorgasbord in Los Angeles, and some vegan markets in Santa Ana with OC Vegan Village and KW Vegan Fair. We'll post via our instagram where we'll be posted next. This is so exciting as we are also looking to expand to a commercial kitchen to add some vegan eats to our selection of baked goodies. How's that for growth!
Please do come support our new venture with 3/6 Productions. We are starting a new marketplace next to Dry River Brewing in the Arts District on March 23rd. It'll be every 3rd Saturday of the month from March - September. It's called River Land Market and will feature food vendors, wellness practitioners, artists and artisans.
In the meantime, I am gearing up with Valentine's / Galentine's Day and getting our chocolate truffles back on the market next month. I'm offering free shipping from Feb 7-9. Orders will go out on the 11th so they arrive by Thursday the 14th.
Wishing you continued blessings and thank you for your support.

In a few weeks, Good Mexican Girl celebrates seven years of baking cookies and pastries in the Los Angeles area. We have had a few successes getting our products to local cafes. At the moment, you can find a selection of our vegan and gluten free cookies at Capuyo Cafe in Boyle Heights. Currently, I'm looking into joining a commercial kitchen so we can get our products to even a wider audience. I'll keep you posted on that news hopefully by the end of the year.
Of course, we are baking away and testing new recipies to see which one will be our 7th anniversary cookie. A few of our anniversary cookies have become favorites among our customers such as the Dulce de Leche cookies which we nicknamed Liquid Gold (year 1), Vegan Rocky Road with no Nuts (year 5), and the Rosewater Pistachio cookie (year 6) which is available vegan or vegan-gluten-free too. The rosewater pistachio is our top seller.
Our first contender this year is our take on a biscotti cookie. The texture is perfect for dipping into your favorite fall / winter beverage. It's an almond and orange blossom cookie dipped in soyfree-dairyfree chocolate. I don't have a name for it yet. It looks so decandent. At the moment, I have it in boxes of 2 cookies. Working out the packaging to set it up in boxes of 4 or 6.
We have uped the anty on our oatmeal cookie making it more nutritious. It's our take on a granola bar. We have prepared with mulberries, lucuma, and nutmeg. It's a Vegan Superfood Oatmeal Cookie. These I have available at local popups this weekend.
This week, I'll be baking up some more new items to see which one is a hit. It's a perfect time since Thanksgiving is around the corner. Also, the biggest holiday shopping weekend is coming up too. We'll post another blog entry on all the pop-ups you can find us at this Holiday Season
Wishing you continued blessings and thank you for your support,
Reina

My garden is also inspiring me. I have a wonderful lemon tree that has been offering generously large fruit. I will be attempting another try at a glutenfree lemon bar. I'll also be making my own candied lemon peels after watching a marathon run of British Baking show.
In the spirit of Spring cleaning, we will be moving out of rotation a few of our cookies, or making them only available as either gluten-free or classic preparation. We also are adding a few more apothecary products to help with Spring allergies too.
Don't forget Mother's Day and May graduations are a few weeks away. We have two discounts available for your gift needs this May. You may use them at the same time. If only ordering cookies, you get free shipping with code Cookies at checkout. For Mother's Day, use code LoveMom at checkout to enjoy free shipping with any order $25 and over.
A few popups where you can find us this month:
Friday night we'll join De Fe Creative and Fixe Studio 3rd Annivesary event. It's also the opening of Cafe de Primera at the same location.
Saturday night we return to Pancakes and Booze at Union LA. It's only happening one night. Click on hyperlink to get details
Sunday, we join La Vida Verde Market, which is a vegan marketplace in Covina featuring several food vendors. We'll be here with a selection of our vegan cookies. Click on hyperlink to get details
Mujeres Market on Saturday, May 5. This is our first time joining their marketplace. We'll have a selection of our baked goods and offering tarot readings too.
We'll be back at DTLA during Artwalk on May 10 (Mexican Mother's Day). Find us posted infront of the Los Angeles Theater Center.
May 12, we'll be back in Pomona for their Artwalk at the 500 Block (2nd Street).
May 19, we join Mostly Angels for their new marketplace. Details will be available on Instagram @goodmexicangirl or facebook page.
]]>Another way to lighten up the pantry, is to clear out any foods that have enriched flour or refined sugars. Substitute pasta with a selection of gluten free or vegetable based pastas. Try it out for Spring. You may lose some weight and find that you won't miss the enriched flour pasta. Lastly, remember those gift baskets you got over the holidays with crackers and other sundry items. If you have not eaten them then it's time to create a donation bag with items you are cleaning out from your pantry.
Now the freezer should be sorted out more than once a year. Sometimes we get busy and don't worry about the freezer. Why would you, it's in the freezer. A good rule of thumb is to check it every 2 months. This is why it's important to label your food and date it. Fresh poultry can stay in the freezer up to a year. If it was not packed well and there's freezer burn it's time to throw it out. Leftovers are good up to 2-6 months and soups or stews for 2 months.
Given that it's spring time, there are now a selection of fresh vegetables, fruits, and herbs available at the farmer's market. You can add fresher ingredients to your meals. The mise en place can happen after you come back from the farmer's market. Wash and your vegetables, fruit, or herbs. You may also create snack bags of raw vegetables for easy placement in lunch box. I enjoy getting blueberries and freezing them. I use them in our scones whenever they are available fresh. I also add them to my smoothies.
This is also a great time to lighten up your meals by cleaning and reorganizing your refrigerator. For health and hygene, clean it regularly. It is recommended to do a good deep clean at least once a season. Organize your refrigerator to reflect the foods you want to prioritize in your meals. Since it's Spring make more room for vegetables and greens. Like the spices, also do the same for any condiments. Condiments are good up to 6 months. Again if you bought some for that summer cookout or picnic and haven't used it all up, it's time to throw it out. If there is some left that is within the 6 months, use it for some salad dressing or marinade.
Happy Spring and good eats. In the meantime, don't forget you can save on shipping for cookie orders. Use code: Cookies at checkout. We'll also add another special in time for Mother's Day
]]>This new moon inspired some wonderful blends such as Bring in the Om, Igniting Romance, Stress Headache Relief, and Moldavite Oil.
I work with the cycles of the moon to create many of the Healing Queen proprietary blends. I also take on the cues of the new moon to push creativity and connect to what clients are requesting when they stop by our tables at pop-ups. During the full moon, I activate many of our blends along with crystals to raise their vibration. May these essential oil blends serve you well and bring you greater clarity, ease, and elevate your vibration.
Here is a list of our newest blends. We did add them to our catalogue.
Bring in the Om is great for meditation or to diffuse in your yoga studio for restorative sessions. It has woody notes with palo santo, cedarwood, sandalwood, plus seven other oils.
Igniting Romance is a lovely blend of 13 oils many of them aphrodisiatic oils like Rose and Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood.
Stress Headache Relief was created for my mom. She suffers from stress headaches that she feels on her frontal lobe.
Moldavite Oil. Yes you read this correctly. I use moldavite gemstones to infuse the oil and amplify the stones qualities. This is an oil to use in diffuser to bring into greater alignment of your chakras.

]]>Dreaming of Cookies....
I often get my inspirations for new cookie recipes from dreams. It is a rare occasion when I can remember my dreams. Early this summer, I wanted to create a new cookie for the Verses popup we had with DeFeCreative in Los Angeles. The ingredients literally came to me in a dream. I remembered a dessert I had with a dear friend with the flavor profile of Rosewater and Pistachios, honey and rice. I am already a fan of rosewater as it is the ingredient of the first chocolate truffle I made
The next morning, I started to get my ingredients to make a vegan cookie. Trusting the creative process, I set out to create our newest cookie. Once the cookie cooled, I tasted it and realized that it needed something. I decided to make a quick icing with rosewater. This added a nice sweetness to the richness of the cookie.
For Veggie Connection in June, we made a vegan-glutenfree version of it. It made my day to meet a young customer who fell in love with our cookie in the first bite. She said with a smile beaming from ear to ear, "I don't know how you do it. I really like this cookie. It's delicious."
In a short time, the Rosewater Pistachio vegan cookie has become a top seller at our popups. Similar to our other runaway hit Dulce De Leche Cookies, this is too becoming a classic in our offerings.
]]>We are bringing back our chocolate truffles and adding a vegan option to our selection. The vegan truffles are made with a soy & dairy free chocolate.
We also have travel size wellness packages with body sprays. This month we are launching a selection of perfumes made with therapeutic grade essential oils. We are launching our blend of 26 oils we call "Goddess" and "Lavender". Perfect for the love in your life.
