The Valentine’s sales this year were off to a slow start. It’s the nature of vending at events. Sometimes they hit strong and sometimes it’s a whisper in a forest. Nevertheless, we enjoyed ourselves and ventured out to new markets. When you have time to reflect on your business and the product, you come up with good ideas.
A few weeks ago, a friend of mine posted a beautiful image of macarons. I’ve been wanting to try my hand at these. We are starting to experiment with recipes and hope to launch our line just in time for Mother’s Day, perhaps sooner.
The picture itself also got me thinking about the adage “do what you know”. As shared before, our business started with just one cookie: the mexican wedding cookie or russian teacakes. A few customers have commented that our cookies remind them of their grandmother’s Greek Kouradiedes.
I thought about how to “improve” on our cookie. We have decided to make different flavorings and also to create a sandwich cookie. We tested out the first sandwich. Using our classic recipe and the filling with dark chocolate ganache.
These were a big hit at the “Ritmos de Amor” event at Self-Help Graphics. At the next sale of “Chocolate & Art” we decided to offer a new flavoring - Lemon & Lavender Seasalt. These cookies are my new favorites.
We are now going to offer new flavor combinations and sandwich filling variations for our classic “Throw Me A Wedding Shower” Cookie. Believe me you won’t be able to eat just one.
